Her gross tonnage is 2498 and her principal dimensions are:—Length, 283 feet; beam, 45 feet; moulded depth, 21 feet 6 inches. The vessel has a speed of 12 knots. Launched on September 1 last from the Linthouse yard of Alexander Stephenson and Son, the Kakapo, was christened by Mrs W. J. Jordan, wife of the High Commissioner for New Zealand. On October 23 the Kakapo left the Clyde for Eureka, California, where she loaded a full cargo of 1,500,000 feet of redwood for Auckland and Wellington.
