+ OFFICIAL FORECASTS ITHE PRESS Special Service.! WELLINGTON, March 7. The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m .by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Strong- winds from between south-west and west prevailing. Weather squally and changeable, with occasional showers in most places. Temperatures becoming cooler. Seas rather rough to rough. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Moderate to strong winds from between north-west and southwest prevailing. Weather squally and changeable, with intermittent rain and some heavy falls. Seas rough. DOMINION The following is the Dominion forecast: — Changeable and unsettled, witn rain at times in most districts, some heavy falls being likely in those places with a westerly aspect from Taranaki southwards. Temperatures moderate to cool. While an anti-cyclone extends across the North Island, a rather deep westerly depression has been crossing the South Island, and is being followed by a slight secondary across the South Tasman sea.

Winds —South-westerly south of Hokitika and Banks Peninsula, elsewhere north-westerly to westerly, but a southerly change extending over most of the South Island and western districts of the north; light to moderate but freshening somewhat north of Kawhia and East 'Cape, elsewhere moderate to strong, and in places reaching gale force. Seas (New Zealand waters) —Rough south of Cape Egmont and about Cook and Foveaux Straits, elsewhere slight to moderate, but rising off the East coast of the South Island. Eastern Tasman Sea —Moderate to strong winds between north-west and southwest; seas, moderate in the northern portion and rather rough to rough in the southern.

CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER

After a dull morning in Christchurch early yesterday the sun shone brightly later and the day was warm. A strong southerly wind arose in the afternoon and the weather became cooler again. The night was fairly cold. The maximum temperature was a 0.2 degrees.

Wellington—The day was dull and threatening, with a north-westerly gale. • The minimum temperature on Sunday night was 47.0 degrees, the maximum yesterday being 65.5 degrees At 3.30 p.m. the barometer reading was 29.96 in. Dunedin —The sfcn shone during the greater part of the day and there was a fresh breeze from the south-east. Temperatures were mild, however, the maximum being 67 degrees.
