OBITUARY

* MR WILLIAM STALKER Mr William Stalker, of Rangiora, died on Saturday night, at the age of 69 years. He had been a member of the Rangiora County Council since it was constituted in 1912. His term as chairman extended over 12 consecutive years. He resigned from public activities for health reasons in April, 1937. Mr Stalker was also a director of the Cam Dairy Company, a member

of the executive of the South Island Dairy Association, and a director of the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-opera-tive Association. Since the Cam Dairy Company was formed 20 years ago he had been chairman of directors, relinquishing this position only last year. Keenly interested in the work of friendly societies, Mr Stalker was a Past Grand of the Loyal Woodend Lodge, M.U., 1.0.0. F. His life was one of almost continuous public service, and he was associated with various local domain boards, school committees, and other organisations in the district. MR ROBERT P.
