YOUTH DROWNED AT AUCKLAND

In full view of hundreds of picnickers on Milford beach this afternoon, a young man was drowned when a small canoe overturned about 100 yards from the beach. The victim was Trevor Windsor, aged 17, a Takapuna butcher's assistant. With another young man, Windsor had hired a canoe just a few minutes before the mishap. The canoe capsized on a small reef which was laid bare owing to the exceptionally low tide. His companion swam ashore, but Windsor disappeared in the strong ebb tide. , , Six members of the Milford Girls Surf Club went into the water fully clad and made a search for the body without success.
