NAVAL VESSELS
FUTURE PROGRAMME [THE PRESS Special Service.l WELLINGTON, March H.M.S. Leander arrived at Wellington yesterday morning from Auckland and berthed near the escort ship Leith, which arrived on Wednesday, at Clyde Quay Wharf. The Wellington is due at Wellington on Friday from Auckland and the Achilles on March 15 from Dunedin. The object of this naval visit is to allow ihc ratings to undergo their annual musketry and field drill course, and this morning A Company of the Leander and a platoon from the Leith went into camp at Trcntham. They will remain there until March 18 and will be followed by K Company of the Leander and platoons from the Leith and Wellington. ■ ... The Leander will be in port until April 4, when she will leave for the Marlborough Sounds. Leaving the Sounds on April 9 she will go to Nelson (arriving on the same day) and will return to Wellington on April 13. On April 19 she will sail for the Haurakl Gulf where, in company with the Achilles, she will carry out exercises for six days, after which both ships will return to Auckland, the Leander for autumn leave and refitting. , The Achilles arrived at the West Coast Sounds on- Wednesday from Australia, and will call at Bluff and Dunedin before coming to Wellington. She will leave on March 16 for Auckland and Russell, where she is due on March 22. The cruiser will leave RusseJ.l on March 30 for Wellington and will be here from April 1 to April 19. She will then leave with the Leander for Hauraki Gulf. The Achilles and the Leander will be at Wellington together for six days, and during that time parties from bojh ships will compete at a rifle meeting at Trentl.am. The Wellington'will leave Auckland, where she is refitting, on Wednesday and arrive at Wellington on Friday. She will sail on April 2 for Akaroa. where, with the Leith, she will do five days’ mine-sweeping training with Royal Naval Volunteer Reservists. She will be back in Wellington on April 9, and will leave two days later for Auckland. Leaving Auckland on April 26, she will proceed to Sydney with the Leith, where they will arrive on May 2. The Leith, at present in port, will leave on April 1 for Lyttelton. The vessel will sail on April 2 for Akaroa. where she, too, will do mine-sweeping practice with Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve men, She will then return tc Lytloltdn and will said from there on April ll for Auckland, where she will meet the Wellington and go to Sydney lor docking and refitting.
