SOUTH SHANSI CAMPAIGN
SEVERE FIGHTING IN HIGH COUNTRY (PftSSS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, March 5. The Chinese Consul has received the following cablegram from Hankow:— “The latest reports from South Shansi indicate that although the Chinese troops evacuated the railway line between Liushih and Lamfun they are in full occupation ol both sides of the Tungpo railway, and are engaged in severe fighting with the enemy in mountainous country. , “Shansi will be most suitable for guerrilla warfare, and the enemy s plan to occupy the whole of Shansi cannot be easily attained. Our re " inforcements north of Honan have crossed the river in force and aie advancing towards the Taoching railway. The right flank made xapid progress and reached the vicinity of Taokowchen. The enemy has been repeatedly repulsed in the northern and southern sectors of the Tsmpu line, and suffered heavy casualties.
