MORNING TEA' PARTY

TWO TEACHERS HONOURED KINDERGARTEN ASSOCIATION ENTERTAINS Miss I. M. Jamie'son, who will leave to-day for a visit to Scotland, and Miss D. Easter, who will leave shortly for a holiday visit to England, have, in addition to their work at the Christchurch Normal School, given much valuable assistance to women’s organisations in the city, and particularly to the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association. Members of that association will miss their help on the education committee, and Miss Baster’s services as examiner. At a pleasant little morning tea party, held on Saturday in Beath’s Tudor room, members of the kindergarten committee showed their _ appreciation of the services so willingly and cheerfully given by these two women, and presented them with books to read on the voyage. On behalf of the teaching staffs of the kindergartens. Miss Rene Wilkie (principal), asked Miss Jamieson and Miss Easter to accept floral gifts. Mrs H. T. J. Thacker, president of the association, welcomed the guests of honour and wished them happy times overseas, and assured them of a warm welcome on their return. Mrs A Keith Hadficld, treasurer, eulogised the V'ork done by the guests of honour on the education committee, and wished them a pleasant voyage. Amongst those present were Mesdames H. T. J. Thacker, A. K. Hadfield, Miss Jamieson, Miss Easter, Miss H Hull, former principal of the kindergartens, Miss R. Wilkie (principal), Miss F. L. Cooper, secretary of the association, and conveners and officers of the seven free kindergarten committees in Christchurch. GARDEN PARTY CANTERBURY PILGRIMS’ ASSOCIATION The picturesque grounds of “Risingholme,” Opawa, the home of Mr and Mrs .F. W. Anderson, were an ideal setting for a garden party held by the Canterbury Pilgrims’ and Early Settlers’ Association on Saturday afternoon. About 600 members and friends attended. , . , . Mr G. Whitelaw apologised for the absence of the president (Mr E. R. Webb), and members stood in silence as a tribute to the memory of the late Mrs Webb. ' , , The Rev. S. Guise Bnttan thanked the committee for calling on him on his ninetieth birthday, and also Mr and Mrs Anderson for their hospitality. An interesting talk on the various notable trees in the grounds was given by Mr Harold Reece. EVENING SOCIAL R.S.A. DEBATING SOCIETY The ladies’ committee of the Returned Soldiers’ Literary and Debating Society held its first social of the season on Saturday, evening at the home of Mr and Mrs W. T. Woods, Fitzgerald avenue. Flag “500” was played, the winners being Misses Rita Dixon and D. Green, and Mr V. McEwen. Consolation prizes were awarded to Messrs Peter and David Woods and Peter Songs were sung by Mrs J. H. Parker and Mr Jack Woods, and elocutionary items were given by Mr B. R. McLaren and Mr F. C. Lewis, lona and Diana Hartley, Grace Jessett, Pat Woods, Eva Elliott, and Mr E. Turnbull. TIMARU NEWS SOCIAL AND PERSONAL Mr and Mrs H. D. Blair (Orbell street) have returned from a visit to Lake Tekapo. Miss Enid Haselden (Bank of New South Wales) has returned from a visit to Christchurch. Mr and Mrs H. L. Brown (Pukekoa) are the guests of Mrs Faber Brown, Wai-iti road, . Mr and Mrs T. Simon (Wai-iti road) have returned from a visit to Christchurch. , Miss May Barron (Dunedin), who will leave on Thursday to visit England arrived on Saturday to spend the week-end with Mrs A. Grant, “Aigantighe,” Wai-iti road. Miss D, L, Bunt, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs J. A. Bunt (Otipua road), who has been in New South Wales for more than two years, will return this week on a brief visit to her parents.
