LINWOOD CLUB’S SUCCESSFCi SEASON

Ten teams again represented the dob in the Canterbury Rugby Union’s comped* tions last season, states the report of the Llnwood Rugby Union Football Club, tt be presented to the fifty-first annual meeting this evening. The high standard reached by the club on the field was shows by its success in winning both the EvansShield and the Redpath Shield. The winning of the shields in 1938 would constitute a record in the history of the** competitions. The second grade and under 9st grad* teams won their respective competitions, and the sixth and under Bst grade teams filled second place in their contests. The Hervey Cup was awarded to the unde* 9st team, which has not lost a match in the last two seasons.

The report also makes reference to til* social activities of the club, which included a function to celebrate the dub’s first win in the second grade competition for 27 years. Although the training scheme was introduced late in the season, the steward who had control of all coaches and training facilities (Mr A. E. Phillips) had done some very good work. "The principal need of the club in the senior competition is for heavy rucking forwards," adds the report. The financial statement shows a credit balance of £l4O Os 9d, compared with one of £lO3 10s 5d last year. Assets total £262 5s 9d and there are no liabilities. In the club room account, it is shown that receipts exceeded payments by £S3 18s 2d, compared with £4O 18s 9d a year ago.

A proposal to come before the meeting wall be the election of Messrs O- Turpin, G. Burson, and H. Meynell as life members of the club, in appreciation of services to the club.

RANGIORA HIGH SCHOOL OLD BOYS

Members of the Rangiora High. Sehnirt Old Boys’ Association met on Saturday to consider forming an old boys’ football club in the district. Mr -G. C. Beattie (acting-principal of the High School) pro* sided.

The secretary (Mr A. G. Banfield) earplained that there was a feeling among: many old boys that a club could andshould be formed. In outlining what was required in the formation of a dub, he said that pupils leaving school would have a definite club to Join, whereas at present many felt Indifferent about carrying on with the game after leaving scbooL The following resolution was carried:— "That a Rugby football club be formed, to be called the Rangiora High School Old Boys’ Football Club, and that steps be taken to affiliate the club to the North Canterbury Rugby Sub-Union." It was decided that application be made for affiliation at the meeting of the North Canterbury Sub-Union on Monday. Mr Banfield was appointed delegate lor the proposed club. It was considered that there were about 52 prospective playing members in the district, the majority of whom would be eligible for the senior grade, and 15 aoaplaying members. It was stated that at least 29 would be available at the opening of the season, and an effort will b* made to enter a senior team in the sobunion competitions.

The club colours decided upon were green Jersey with white shorts, and greea socks with gold tops.
