ASHBURTON COMPETITIONS FAIRFIELD LEADS IN- SENIOR GRADE Fairfield is still leading, with six championship points ahead of Ashburton, in the senior grade of the Ashburton Cricket Association’s competitions. There was no outstanding batting in Saturday’s matches but many good bowling averages were recorded. The top score of the day went to N. Jones (Technical), who made 68 in the senior match against Kai Ora. The batting in the junior grade was weak, W. Ashworth (Lauriston). making the highest total of 31. against Kia Ora. The best bowler in the senior matches was G. Willis (Fairfield), who took seven wickets for 12 runs and six for 14, while in the junior grade R. McCormick (Technical) took five for 14 and J. Taylor (Old Boys) took four for 11. Senior Grade A win by 77 runs on the first Innings was recorded by Technical against Kia Ora. who went in first and made 127, and in the second strike made 78 for the loss of no wickets.
