HAREWOOD CLUB The official opening of the Harewood Golf Club took place over the week-end, when the president, Mr L. P. Symes, declared the links open for the winter season. A strong south-west wind with rain made conditions difficult in the morning, when a mixed or optional four-ball bogey (won by J. K. and J. M. Louisson with a card of 3 up) was played. In the afternoon the weather improved and S. Bryant and M. B. Cook tied with E. H. Buckeridge and Miss M. Garbutt in a Canadian foursome bogey match with cards of 2 up. WAIMAIRI BEACH CLUB The official opening of the season of the Waimairi Beach Golf Club was held over the week-end. The president, Mr A. R. Blank, welcomed the members. He mentioned the general improvement to the grounds, and said that the fairways were in good order and the greens in excellent condition. After driving the first ball he declared the season open. Mrs R. J. G. Collins, ladies’ club captain, drove the first ball for the lady members. The Canadian foursome stroke handicap played over 10 holes resulted in a win for J. P. TEMPLETON COUNTRY CLUB The first ball was driven by the president (Colonel W. W. McKinney) at the opening of the Templeton Country Club, which was held on Saturday afternoon in ideal weather. The president wished members a successful season. Mrs E, Rudkin, women s captain, drove the first ball for the women. There was a large attendance. A flag match resulted in G. M. Condllffe and Mrs G. Smith carrying the flag to the twentieth hole. The course was In splendid order, and an enjoyable afternoon was spent. Stableford Bogey Match A Stableford bogey was played by the Templeton Country Club during the weekend. It was the first match for the winter season, and resulted in wins for J. H. FUNERAL MR PERCY WILLIAM CAMPBELL Mr Percy William (Pat) Campbell, a senior master at the West Christchurch High School, who died at his residence, Ranfurly street, St. Albans, on Wednesday, after a long illness, was buried at the Bromley Cemetery on Friday. The funeral was largely attended, boys of the school forming a guard of honour as the cortege left the home. The burial service was conducted by the Rev. W. E. D. Davies, of St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, assisted by Canon G. Nelham Watson (Opawa). Bearers at the house were Messrs J. Burrowes, C. Penney, H. Robertson, B. K. Dawber, C. Noble, and Pitcaithly, and at the graveside Messrs G. L., H M., L. D., and A. T. Campbell (brothers), K. Booker, and L. Marshall.
