UNLAWFULLY ON RACECOURSE
WOMAN CHARGED ■ (rEESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) . . AUCKLAND. March 4. . On a charge of being found unlawfully on the Ellen-lie racecourse, Eileen Lucy Satchcll appeared in the Magistrate's Court, before Mr C. R. Orr Walker, S.M., and pleaded guilty. "This woman was caught carrying on the occupation of a bookmaker at Ellerslie on January 29, the first day of the Takapuna Jockey Club's meeting," . said Detective-Sergeant McHugh. "She appeared in this Court on January 31, when she was fined £5 for bookmaking. Although she was warned not to continue this illegal occupation she immediately left the Court and went straight to the racecourse and again carried, on betting." The Magistrate: Did she leave when told to? Detective-Sergeant McHugh: She was put off the course A tearful plea to the Magistrate was made by the defendant. "1 borrowed some money to pay the fine, and I only went out to try and get enough to pay back what I had borrowed," she said. "It was rather cheeky to go back to the racecourse and bet again after you were convicted and warned," the Magistrate said. . Satchell was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within six months, and warned that if fche offended again during that time the consequences would be serious.
