CANTERBURY JUNIOR TITLES

FIELD EVENTS CONTESTED The Canterbury amateur athletic championships began at Lancaster Park last evening, with a series of junior events. The meeting will be continued on Friday and concluded on Saturday. Last evening’s programme for juniors consisted principally of field events, in which the standard of performance was fair though fields were not large. Most interesting races of the evening were the heats of the quarter-mile. The first was won by W. Christiansen, of the Technical Club, in 55 2-ssec, and the second by a South Canterbury junior of considerable promise, J. Sinclair, who won easily In 53 l-ssec, and is likely to travel faster in the final on Saturday. K. Stanton (Old Boys) walked a mile competently in Imin 42sec. The new field champions are S. L. Almond (discus). K. S. Kibble (high jump), D. Gibson (javelin and shot), R. Comfort (pole vault). Detailed results were:— 440 Yards—First heat: W. Christiansen (Technical) 1, L.
