NAZI JOURNALS BANNED
CARDINAL’S ORDER TO CATHOLICS REPLY TO VILIFICATION OF PRIESTS (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.) (Received February 28, 8.30 p.m.) MUNICH, February 27. Cardinal Faulhaber, Archbishop of Munich, in a Lenten pastoral read in Munich Catholic churches, forbids Catholics to subscribe to or read all Nazi newspapers and periodicals publishing matter deliberately calculated to bring the priesthood into disrepute.
The pastoral adds; “Other attempts to undermine Christianity have failed, so the Nazis have started a mud-sjinging campaign against the priests, although under the Vatican Concordat the priest’s garb is entitled to the same respect as the army uniform.”
TWO YEARS IN NAZI PRISON CAMP
AUSTRALIAN-BORN GERMAN BRUTALLY TREATED LONDON, February 27. The Paris correspondent of the “Sunday Chronicle” states that George Rubin, the Australian-born son of a German doctor, dropped a letter addressed to Melbourne into a Berlin letter-box. It, was unfavourable to the Nazis, for which reason Rubin was arrested and sentenced in the People’s Court to two years’ imprisonment in a concentration camp. Rubin has been released through the efforts of the British Consul, after nine months, during which all his teeth were knocked out. He is now in Paris awaiting repatriation. He has practically no money for food.
Rubin states that 235 Protestant pastors in the camp knelt every night to say their prayers amid the jeers of the Nazi guards.
