LOWER BUS FARES
CHANGE IN SERVICE TO KAIAPOI
A reduction of fares on the bus service between Christchurch and Northcote, Styx, Belfast, and Kaiapoi, and between Kaiapoi and Belfast, operated by Midland Motorways, Ltd., has been approved by Mr T. H. Langford, the No. 3 Transport Licensing Authority. . , , In future the concession tickets used on the service will offer 10 rides, instead of 12, but there will be a reduction in the cost of each trip and of each mile travelled. Mr Langford said yesterday that the new scale of fares meant that the cost to the travelling public had been reduced to less than a penny a mile. The revision of fares had been made necessary by the wider application of the 40-hour week.. Approval of the new lares bad been given, not with the idea of encroaching on railway business, but to give a better service to the public.
