SOME PLAYERS AFFECTED BY HEAT ITHL PRESS Special Service.] TIMARU, February 28. Several players in the South Canterbury croquet tournament have been affected by the warm weather which has prevailed day after day in Timaru, and two prominent women players. Mrs McLennan (Timaru) and Mrs McLeod (Gore), who have participated in other recent tournaments elsewhere, have in consequence had to default in some of their matches. Anticipations are that the tournament will conclude to-morrow. Results of to-day’s matches were as follows: — OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP A Grade First Round —Mrs Gilbert beat Mrs Bryant 28-5. 26-19: W. Kirk beat J. Thompson 26-16, 15-26, 28-16; Mrs Nicholson beat Mrs McLennan by default. Second Round—W. Kirk beat Mrs Nicholson 26-9, 26-12. WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP SINGLES A Grade First Life—Mrs Halllday beat Miss Wilson 26-12, Mrs Sarglsson beat Mrs McLeod by default, Mrs Kirk beat Mrs McLennan by default. Second Life—First round: Mrs Patchett beat Mrs McLennan by default. Second round; Mrs Gabites beat Mrs Nicholson 26-6, Mrs Halliday beat Mrs Taylor- 26-20, Mrs Bryant beat Mrs Patchett 26-12. Third round: Mrs Gabites beat Mrs Tomlinson 26-6. CHAMPIONSHIP DOUBLES A Grade Mesdames McLeod and McLennan beat Mesdames Sarglsson and Halliday 26-17. CHAMPIONSHIP SINGLES B Grade First Life—Final: Mrs Moss beat Mrs Stevens 26-15. Second Life—Final: Mrs Parfitt beat Mrs Moss 26-11. Final—Mrs Parfitt beat Mrs Moss 26-2. HANDICAP SINGLES A Grade Semi-finals—Mrs Kirk beat Mrs Tomlinson 26-8. HANDICAP DOUBLES A Grade Final—Mesdames McLeod and McLennan beat Mesdames Sarglsson and Chapman 26-13.
