TERRORISM IN BULGARIA

PROTEST TO KING BORIS DEMAND FOR RESTORATION OF CONSTITUTION (UNITED press association—copyright.) (Received February 27, 8.14 p.m.) SOFIA, February 26. Claiming that there was terrorism and intimidation throughout Bulgaria unparalleled in 50 years, party leaders strongly protested to King Boris, demanding the restoration of the Constitution. ■ The protest, which follows the political arrests last Thursuay, states that since 1934 the country has been governed by "a party of conspirators." }

Last Thursday 50 party leaders, including seven former Ministers, were arrested while they were hold-

ing a secret meeting to discuss the preparation of a protest to King Boris against the terrorism of the present regime. • The Bulgarian Constitution was suspended after a military coup d'etat in May, 1934, and has remained suspended during the terms of successive Cabinets. The Tosheff Cabinet proposed to promulgate a new Constitution in 1935, but the Cabinet fell in November of that year, and nothing was done. The next Government was led by Dr. G.' Kiosseivanov, the present Prime Minister.

There are strong forces in Bulgaria, led principally by M. Tsankov, which are believed to be aiming at a dictatorship on the lines of Nazi Germany. The present Government, with the approval of King Boris, is believed to be working for the eventual return of representative government. It is a "nonparty" government, formed in July and reorganised in October, 1936.
