FINANCIAL POSITION DISCUSSED
DECISION OF ANNUAL
MEETING
Because of the financial state of the Christchurch Male Voice Choir, the annual meeting held on Saturday evening discussed whether the choir should continue as an adult male choir for one year only, and then reform as a mixed choir with a change of namo Mr F. K. Tucker, the secretary, said that if it included women members in the choir, it would'.be possible to improve the financial position, A motion was carried that it continue this year as an adult male choir.
The annual report for the year ending January 31, 1938, showed that the expenses had been very heavy, but that musically the choir had had a most successful year. It was estimated that not fewer ihan 350 financial sub scribers were necessary to make a success of the choir, but at present there were only 265, not all of whom.were financial." The actual membership of the choir was 32, an increase of six members on the previous year's numbers.
The financial statement showed, an expenditure of £3lO 5s 3d. The credit balance at the beginning of the year was £6l 18s 3d, while at ihe end of the year it was £46 lis Od. Assets were £95 4s 9d, and the liabilities at £4O 10s.
The report and financial statement werp adopted. The election of officers resulted:— President, Mr Clifton Bingham; vicepresidents, Messrs F. Ballantyne, Charles Clarkson, A. K. Hadfield, W. Izard, H. H. Loughnan, R. F. Loughnan, R. E, McDougall, Dr. F. Hight, the Rev. J. Lawson Robinson, Dr. D. E. Hansen, the Rev. F. N. Taylor, Dr. J. C. Pairman, Professor F. Sinclaire, Dr. E. D. Pulloa, Mr F. C. Penfold; conductor, Dr. J. C. Bradshaw; deputyconductor, Mr W. D. Marks; honorary pianist, Mr Noel Newson; honorary secretary, Mr F. K. Tucker; honorary treasurer, Mr A. W. Hollmgum: honorary librarian, Mr F. K. Tucker; honorary auditor, Mr R. L, Hicks: committee, Messrs W. Marks, R. Lake, G. W. Drayton, F. L. Davie, and C. James. A vote of thanks was passed by the secretary to the retiring committee and office-bearers, and also to the conductor (Dr. J, C. Bradshaw) for the untiring interest he had taken in the choir.
