CLERICAL WORKERS' DISPUTE
COMPLETE SETTLEMENT REACHED
Complete agreement in the Canterbury clerical workers' dispute was reached at the sitting of the Conciliation Council on Saturday morning, when the outstanding points for discussion were on hours of work and wages. The wage scale for males will extend from 20s to £5 10s a week, and for females from 15s to £3 a week. Annual holidays will be for a week and four days. A special agreement was made exempting hospital boards from the hours and provisions of the holidays. A 40-hour week was agreed upon, providing that when the hours are already less than this they be observed as at present, with the employers having the right to increase them to 40 on special occasions without payment of overtime. The award, as.far as wages are concerned, will come into operation tomorrow, and will continue until March 31 1939. The award applies to cashiers, clerks, collectors, purchasing officers, meter
readers, telephone enunciators, stenographers, typists, mechanical equipment operators, and hospital admitting clerks. The award does not apply to male workers receiving £350 a year or more, or to female workers receiving £230 a year or more. The assessors were:—Employees. Messrs T. Nuttall, J.
