FOLK MEN SENT TO PRISON

AUCKLAND, February 25. Four men who had made false ";- clarations since a warning was given by Mr C. R. Orr Walker, S.M., in May last, were sent to prison to-day, when several men were prosecuted by the Department of Labou- in the Magistrate's Court on charges of making false statements and obtaining money by false pretences. The Magistrate ordered the four men sentenced to repay by way of fines the money obtained in excess as follows: Peter Sandham, three weeks' imprisonment and a fine of £45; Sydney Jansen, one month and £80; Titus Edward McKenna, two weeks and £SO; George Wells, three weeks and £7O.
