Mrs J. Dryden iiall presided at the first meeting of the year held by the Christchurch branch of the Women s Division of the New Zealand Farmers Union. One new member was welcomed. , „ , Mrr H. A. Nutt (Motukarara) and several members of the Riccarton branch were guests of honour. Mrs W. Machin spoke of her recent travels aboard, and the work of women in other countries. A vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Machin, and afternoon tea was served at the conclusion of the meeting.
PRESENTATION PARTY
Many friends gathered at the Oasis Hall to wish "bon voyage" to Mr Bevan Napper, who will leave shortly for England to join the Royal Air Force. The Mayor of New Brighton (Mr £,. L. Smith) presented a wallet to Mr Napper, with the good wishes of his friends, and the Mayoress (Mrs Smith) presented a bouqeut of flowers to Mr Napper's mother. Music for dancing was played by M" and Mrs W. McNair, and Mr J. .H. Coddington was master of ceremonies. Amon? those present were the Mayor and Mayoress (Mr and Mrs E. L. Smith), Mr and Mrs O. C. FAREWELL PARTY
A number of friends gathered at the home of Mrs A. W. Emmett (North oarade, Shirley), to say good-bye to Mr and Mrs John Emmetl and family, who will leave shortly for a visit to England. Competitions were won by Miss J. Frizzell, Mrs D. Stanley. Messrs S. H. Provost, J. D. Emmett, and R. Collins.
