ANNUAL MEETING AT CHEVIOT .y OFFICERS ELECTED FOR YEAR The annual meeting of the Cheviot Golf Club was held recently, with Dr. L. H. Marshall presiding. The following officers were elected: —Patrons, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes and Mr D. McLaren; president, Mr R. G. G. Westenra; vice-presidents, Mesdames G. L. Rutherford and T. Edridge, Mr G. R. Macdonald, and Dr. L. H. Marshall: women's captain, Mrs T, Edridge: women’s handicap manager, Miss M. O’Boyle; men’s captain, Dr. L. H. Marshall; vice-captain, Mr j. Fleming; handicappcr, Dr. L. H. Marshall; women's committee. Misses H. McDonald and E. Savage; men’s committee, Messrs J. Fleming, J. Rentoul, S. Denton, A. Smith, and T. Kerr; course committee, Messrs A, Fuller, A. Smith, J. Fleming, and S. Denton: secretary and treasurer, Mr F. D. Childs; women’s secretary, Mrs F. D. Childs; auditor, Mr E. Marshall. The purchase of a motor-mower was discussed and a small committee was elected to consider the matter. The committee was given power to make a levy tip to 10s a member to meet the cost of the mower. It was decided that the open tournament for women be held on April 28 and 29, and the men’s tournament on May 8.

PLUNKET SOCIETY MEETING OF DLNSANDEL BRANCH The monthly meeting oi the Dunsandcl branch of the Plunket Society was held recently, with Mrs R. Barnett presiding. Mrs Barnett spoke of the work of Sir Truby King, and as a tribute to .his memory members stood in silence. Money collected by members for the Karitanc Hospital extension fund was handed in, and it was decided to hold the amount until a further sura was raised It was decided that the annual meeting be held on April 12, and that Nurse Horne be asked to att:nd. It was agreed to hold a “bring and buy” sale at the meeting, the proceeds to augment the amount already collected for the Karitane Hospital extension fund. The nurse's reports tor November and December were as follows:—November: Visits to rooms. 4 adults. 4 babies; home visits. 13; new mothers, 2. December; Visits to rooms. 3 adults, 2 babies, 1 pre-school child; home visits. 2; new mother. 1.

WOMEN’S INSTITUTES GROUP PICNIC The group picnic of the Scargil], Omihi, and Waipara institutes was held at the Leithfleld beach. An enjoyable time was spent in races for both children and adults. ASHLEY 'Die monthly meeting of the Ashley Women’s Institute was held recently. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mrs W. Mcßae, in her bereavement. The Association for Country Education lectures were discussed, and it was decided to arrange for four of these. It was decided to hold the annual picnic at Sumner on March 5. friends of the institute to be invited to take part. During the afternoon Mrs Tooley (Southbrook) gave an interesting talk on Switzerland. Competitions resulted; Pinafore made from material not costing more than Is Bd. Mrs H. Pateman 1, Miss Z. Beattie 2, Mrs A. Hill 3; chutney and tomato relish, Miss Z. Beattie 1. Mrs E. Beattie 2. Mrs H. Pateman 3; premier bloom, Mrs H. Pateman 1. Mrs A. Baird 2, Miss J. Croft 3. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs H. Ludcman and Mrs H. Pateman. COALGATE Mrs P. Prestidge presided at the monthly meeting of the Coalgale Women’s Institute, .in the Coalgate Masonic Hall. Arrangements were made for a picnic. Two visitors, one from Wanganui and one from Wellington, were welcomed. Mrs Redfern (Darfield) gave an interesting demonstration on floral decorations. The competitions resulted as follows; Jar of flowers. Mrs Green 1, Mrs G. C. Derrett 2. Mrs T. A. Charles 3; bloom, Mrs Green 1, Mrs Tilley 2. Mrs Jenkins 3. Hostesses were Mesdameg* Aylward and Green. OMIHI The February meeting of the Omihi Women’s Institute was held recently, with Mrs D. Little presiding. The “wandering shilling” was won by Miss M. Sloss. The afternoon was spent in competitions and games, competitions resulting as follows:—Date loaf. Miss D. Sloss 1 and 2; prettiest cud and saucer. Miss M. Sloss 1, Mrs A. Campbell 2; jar of flowers. Mrs H. Munro 1. Miss D. Sloss 2. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames A. Croft. L. Doak, and Threlkeld, and Misses Threlkeld (2).

SCARGILL—MOTUNAU The monthly meeting of the Scar-gill-Motunau Women’s Institute was held recently, with the president presiding. Mrs Bradley. Mrs Gibb, and Mrs Bristow were appointed delegates to the North Canterbury Federation. Miss A. Harrison gave an interesting talk on world affairs. The competitions resulted; —Jar of apple jelly: Mrs Bradley 1. Vase of flowers: Mrs Bradley 1. Mrs Elliot 2. Members of the brown group were hostesses. HORORATA GIRLS’ FRIENDLY SOCIETY The Hororata Girls’ Friendly Society met, in the parish schoolroom yesterday. It was decided to sew as usual for St, Saviour’s Orphanage and to clothe a girl there again this year. BOWLS AT KAIAPOI Playing for the Wylie badges on the Kaiapoi green on Wednesday evening, the challenger, the Kaiapoi Working Men’s Club’s rink, consisting of T. Noble. S. J. Richards, J. Broivn. and E. Monk (s). beat the holder, the Kaiapoi Club rink, consisting of J. R. Murphy, W. C. Tourell, W. G. Wylie, and L. B. Evans (s), by 19 points to 11.
