RANGIORA SCHOOL PUPILS

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES SEVERAL EXCURSIONS, MADE In compliance with the wishes of the Education Department, pupils of the Rangiora Borough School have had some respite from studies during the last few weeks and school hours have been devoted to "outdoor activities. Swimming has been held and excursions have been made to various places ox interest. , , . . . Bicycles were used for transport in most cases. Among the places visited wore the Rangiora. gasworks, th 6 fire brigade station, and the woolworks and twine mills at Waikuku. Other excursions in view are to the Kaiapoi woollen mills, the North Canterbury freezing works, and the flour mills at Rangiora and Southbrook.

JUNIOR JUDGES APPOINTED

A meeting of the Hawarden Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held in the Hawarden Hall. The president •Mr H. W. Shields presided. The offers of champion ribbons in the light horse and pony sections were rereg'eived from Mrs E. C. Anderson, and In the draught horses from Messrs J. W. Earl and W. R. E. Rutherford Cup for the chemnion hunter will be competed for at Hawarden this year, it was decided to tighten up the Jumps. PERSONAL NOTES RANGIORA The harvest thanksgiving services at St. John's Anglican Church on Sunday will.be taken by Canon F. J3. Redgrave. vicar of Fendalton. Canon Redgrave will be the guest of Mr and Mrs C. J. Smith (King .street). The Town Clerk (Mr J. M. Fraser) will leave Rangiora to-morrow for New Plymouth to attend the Municipal Conference and the town clerks’ conference. CULYERDEN Misses M. and B. Hodgins left Culverden for Auckland last Monday to attend the Roman Catholic centenary celebrations. Miss Bcryllc Thompson Teft Culverden yesterday to attend the Roman Catholic centenary celebrations at Auckland. , HORORATA Mr Ken McGill and Mrs McGill and Mr and Mrs Prosser (Leeslon) have been visiting Mr and JJrs J. Ballagh (‘‘Hillcx-est.’’ Hororata). Mr F. O’Connor, of the Hororata Post Office staff, is on annual leave. Mr and Mrs Brightmore, Mr and Mrs Jackson (Christchurch), and Mr S. Wilson (Pigeon Bay) have been the guests of Mr and Mrs S. Locker ("The Bend,” Hororata).

Mr and Mrs S. R. Wright, who have been visitors to the district, have returned to Waimale. Mr and Mrs H. H. Thorne have left for Washdykc. where they will spend a short holiday with Mr and Mrs G. E. LAWN TENNIS HAWARDEN BEATS WAIKARI A friend Iv tennis match was played between a Hawarden women's team and a Waikari women’s team, on the Waikari tennis courts on Wednesday. Hawarden won by 8 sets to 4. The matches resulted as follows (Waikari names first);— Singles—Mrs Honeybone lost to Mrs Wright 4-6, Mrs Mounsey lost to Mrs Scott 2-6, Mrs Soal lost to Mrs Galletly 3-6, Mrs Oliver lost to Mrs Patchett X-6, Miss Horne lost to Miss Scott 5-6, Miss Ives lost to Mrs Heasley 2-6, Mrs Traill lost to Miss Holder 1-6, Mrs Jarden beat Miss Croft 6-5. MAGISTRATE’S COURT SITTING AT KAIKOURA Before Messrs A. B. Clark and R. T. Pope. J.P.’a, at the Magistrate’s Court, Kaikoura, on Wednesday. James Wilson Boyd, a farmer, of Kaikoura Suburban, was charged with being found drunk in'charge of a horse and cart in Torquay street, Kaikoura. Boyd pleaded guilty and was fined £5, in default one month’s imprisonment with hard labour/ On a further information a prohibition order was made against him for 12 months. Alexander Wilson Boyd, a farmer, of. Kaikoura Suburban, was prohibited from obtaining intoxicating liquor for one year.
