WAIMAIRI CLUB’S PROGRESS IMPROVEMENTS TO COURSE CARRIED OUT “If the present rate of progress continues, Waimairi, before long, will be one of the finest seaside courses in the Dominion,” stated the report presented at‘ the annual meeting of the Waimairi Golf Club last evening. The report said that the levelling and turfing of the landing areas for tee shots had been proceeded with. Uneven portions of the fairways which would not be cut with the triplex mower had been rounded off, and large areas of lupin and scrub had been removed. The major work of the year was the removal of portion of the huge sandhill on No. 8 fairway. Well grassed fairways, which were previously sandy wastes, and excellent greens were the result of wise expenditure and careful planning. A first-class implement shed was erected at small cost. The ladles’ club had a most successful season. Alterations and additions to the club house were badly needed. Maurice Blank, a promising young player, aged 17, was congratulated on winning the men’s championship. Miss E. C. Wood won the women's championship. Many members performed meritoriously in open competitions. H. E. Clarke won the Junior open championship at Russley. Thanks were extended to the greenkeeper and his assistant for the general Improvement In the course. It was stated that the club’s finances were in a satisfactory condition, but increased costs for labour and material had made the year a’ difficult one. The committee had had to borrow temporarily to meet contingencies. RAWHITI CLUB OFFICERS ELECTED FOR YEAR The seventh annual meeting of the Rawhiti Golf Club was held last evening, the president (Mr G. W. Bishop) presiding. The following officers were elected:— Patron, Mr J. H. Shaw, president. Mr G. W. Bishop, vice-presidents, Messrs L. W. Besley and J. W. Lovell: club captain, Mr V. Jensen; treasurer, Mr J. W. Lovell; auditors, Messrs. Lyttle and Lyttle; committee, Messrs D. H. Kennedy, Cyril Shaw, N. E. Clemens. W. P. Warner, N. E. Jarvis: social committee, Messrs A. B. L. Smith, Cyril Shaw, and V. Jensen, to work with women’s committee; secretary. Mr A. J. Manning. On the motion of Mr C. M. Mulian, it was decided that club championships be played in three grades—senior, intermediate. and Junior. Opening day was fixed for Saturday, March 19. Ladies’ Club The annual meeting of the Rawhiti Ladies’ Golf Club was held last evening, Mr Harold Shaw presiding. The following officers were elected; — Club captain. Mrs F. Smedley; honorary secretary and treasurer, Miss Emily Tilleyshort; committee, Mrs A. L. Large, Mrs A. P. Hobson, Mrs O. Herdman, Mrs A. B. L. Smith.
