FENDALTON AND CITY

COMPARISON OP RATES STATEMENT BY WAIMAIKI COUNCILLOR “If these figures are published I am sure the ratepayers of Fendalton will be strongly opposed to amalgamation with the city,” said Cr. F. S. Scott in placing a comparison of city- and county rating before a meeting last night of the Waimairi County Council. Cr. Scott claimed that if the Fendalton rate levy was computed on the city’s rate it would be £4413 more than that levied by the county. Cr. Scotf said that the unimproved value of the Fendalton riding was £615,350.' The city levy, for the general and lighting rate and the Domains Board levy, on the basis of 2Jd in the £'■ on unimproved value, would be £7039. To this would be added £1914 for reading loan charges in the riding. That made a total rate of £ 8953. The county’s general rate for the riding was id in the £ on capital value. This included street lighting, Domains Board levy, and reading loan charges. The capital value of the riding was £1,746,246, and the total rate at |d in the £ would be £4540, making an excess of city rating over county rating of £4413. Cr. Scott added that the city’s general consolidated rate of 3 4565478125 din the £ on unimproved value would amount to £11,338. If this rate was levied over the whole of the Fendalton district the total would be £13,252, this sum including £1914 for reading loan charges. The county rating was £4540, the excess of city over country rating being £8712. Cr.?W. G. Chapman remarked that he had prepared figures which showed that the Papanui riding rate would be £4OO a year more if it was assessed on the city’s charges. That increase would be borne by the 320 ratepayers in the riding.
