ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY

MANAGER SECRETARY APPOINTED MR G. L. POMFRET-DODD CHOSEN Thirteen applications for the position of manager-secretary and treasurer of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society were received and a special committee was appointed a short time ago to consider the applications. At the meeting of the council of the society last evening it was reported that a special committee had eliminated all but three of the applicants, and these three waited on the council meeting, when they were interviewed. Mr G. L. Pomfret-Dodd, until recently president of the society, was elected, the unsuccessful candidates being Messrs K. N. McGillivray and O. W. B. Anderson.

Mr C. li. Lawrence, chairman of the special committee, mentioned that the members of that committee had felt that it was not their duty to make the final choice, but rather that of the council as a whole. After the three applicants had been interviewed a ballot was taken to eliminate one of them. Mr Anderson was unsuccessful, the final ballot being between Messrs Pom-fret-Dodd and McGillivray. No figures were given for the final voting, the president of the society. Dr. D. McK. Dickson, announcing that Mr Pomfret-Dodd had been elected.
