NEW RAILWAY STATION
Suggested Change Of Site LOCATION AT ADDINGTON "NOT EXPEDIENT" No opposition to the construction c' the new Christchurch railway station in Moorhouse avenue is to be offered by the coi icil of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce. This was decided by tl. council last night. At a meeting of the council in December it was suggested that the site of the station should be at Addington, and the transport committ .e was au*'-irised to consider the proposal. The report of the committee was presented to the council last night. "After careful consideration, the committee feels it is .omewhat late at this stage to consider the question of site," the reoort said. "After considering various aspects of the position and examining maps and aerial photographs of the present Addington station and the adjacent area submitted by the representative of the Railway Department, the committee wishes to report that it is not, in its opinion, expedient to have the railway station at Addington."
The report was approved without comment after the president of the chamber (Mr W. S. Mac Gibbon) had remarked that if the Railway Department adhered to its plans the station would be worthy of the city.
