Mr and Mrs T. F. Gibson (Fendalton) left on Saturday night for Auckland to meet their son-in-law and daughter, Lieutenant-Com-mander and Mrs G. Oldham, who are arriving from England, and who will visit Christchurch before leaving for their new home in Melbourne.

Mrs Heathcote Gray (Fendalton) has returned from a visit to South Canterbury.

Mrs Hubert Jones (Prebbleton) has returned from a visit to her mother in Dunedin.

Dr. and Mrs J. E. K. Brown and Miss Bunty Brown (Avonside) have returned from a holiday spent at "The Lodge," Hanmer Springs. Mr J. H. Harkness and Miss Dorothy Harkness (Westport), who have been spending a month in Christchurch, left for Westport via the Lewis Pass yesterday. Miss Muriel Harkness (Park terrace) accompanied them for a three weeks' visit to Westport.

Mrs M. Cordy (Fendalton) has returned from a visit to England. Mr and Mrs F. W. Freeman and Misses Jocelyn and Brownie Freeman (Cashmere Hills), who are spending a holiday at the Marlborough Sounds, will return home next week-end.

Canon and Mrs BJoyce (Westport) will arrive in Christchurch to-day for a fortnight's visit.

Mr and Mrs J. K. Bailie (formerly of Wcstport) are making their home in Christchurch, and have taken a flat in Cashel street west. Miss Althea Cookson, who recently retired from her position of ■lady superintendent of the Wellington Hospital, will leave on Saturday by the Mataroa for a trip to Britain. On her return she will settle in Whangarei. Mrs Noel Nelson (Wellington) will accompany her to England. Mrs J. D. C. Davis and Miss Margarette Davis (Taihape), who have been touring the South Island for the last three weeks, and who are now at the Hotel Federal, will leave for the North Island to-night. Mr and Mrs Baden Hornbrook will return to Marlborough early next week.

Mrs Arthur Binns (Pakuranga, Auckland) is the guest of her sister, Mrs A. Garnett, Clarence road, Riccarton.

Mr and Mrs J. Smith, and Misses Jean, Heather, and Margaret Smith (Clarkville), have, returned from a tour of the West Coast, Maruia Springs, and Blenheim. Misses Joy Buttle and Lorraine Dawe (Nayland street, Sumner) are spending a holiday at Spotswood, and are the guests of Mr and" Mrs B. N. Buttle.

Mrs A. T. Hassall and family (ClarkvilJe) have returned home from a holiday spent at "The Pines," ICaiapoi.

Misses Lilias and Violet Scott, who have been visiting Mrs L. South, Morere, Hawke's Bay, returned to Rangiora yesterday. Miss C. Reidy (Dunedin), who has been spending a holiday in Christchurch, will return home on Wednesday, to be chief bridesmaid to Miss Diana Simpson, who will be married to Mr Derek Masters, of Auckland.

Mrs F. Holland (Clarkville) has returned from a holiday spent in Dunedin.

The appointment of Mrs Mona Innis Tracy of Christchurch, to be a member bf the Arthur's Pass National Park Board is notified in the Gazette, and Mrs Tracy will take the place of Mr W. K. McAlpine, who died recently.

Mrs W. E. Hunt (Waitoru, Wallacetown) and her children will return home to-day from Timaru, where they have been the guests of Miss Loo Cartwright. Mrs M. Barrett (St. Albans), who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs Arthur Chapman (Wellington), returned home on Saturday. Mr and Mrs T>. W. Meyers (Merivale), who have been touring the Southern Lakes district arid the Eglinton • Valley, returned home at the week-end after a short visit to Invercargill. ■ Miss A. E. Evans, London correspondent of "The Press," arrived in Christchurch yesterday and is staying at the United Service Hotel for a few days. Later she will visit Dunedin.

Miss E. M. Higgins, of the Christchurch Technical College, who has been visiting Britain, returned by the Remuera, which reached Wellington on Saturday. Mrs J. Monteath and her daughter, Miss Sheila Tennent (Fendalton), will leave to-day for a holiday visit to the Franz Josef glacier. Mrs J. A. Redpath (Fendalton) is visiting Wellington to meet her son-in-law and daughter, Mr and Mrs Walter Norwood, who returned at the week-end from a trip abroad. Miss E. F. Blenkinsop, field organiser of the Girls' Life Brigade, is making a three months' visit to New Zealand during which she will travel 3000 miles, visiting the Dominion companies of the brigade. Miss Blenkinsop arrived in Wellington by the Remuera on Saturday.

Mrs J. P. Firth, who has spent several weeks in Nelson, has returned to Wellington.

Dr. Sylvia Chapman has returned to Wellington from Dunedin, where she attended the annual meeting of the Senate of the University of New Zealand.

Queen Mary rolled back her long gloves and became a businesslike saleswoman for two hours at the bazaar in aid of the Personal Service League at Londonderry House, London. She sold 118 articles and took nearly £SOO. As soon as she arrived, Queen Mary said to the Dowager Lady Reading, chairwoman of the league, "I should so much like to help with the selling." So she took off her grey fur-collared coat, hung it over the nearest "chair,: ana set to work.
