THE MAYORALTY

tO THE EDITOR OT TUB PBES3 Sir,-The effusion of W. Mosdell on the selection of a candidate for the Mayoralty election is not likely to mislead anyone. Of course Mr Mosdell is quite welcome to his fancy judgment as to the qualities of Mr Manling, which would fit him for the office of Mayor, but those who have a better knowledge of local affairs, than he evidently has, are in no danger of accepting his suggestion. Your correspondent attempts to give is a brief pen sketch of some of our Public men; there is Dr. Thacker stubborn and amusing: Flesher the—well, he has passed; Archer, the interfering; Beanland the quiet, elegant, and inoffensive; the Hon. D. G. Sulhvan, the worthy. For my part I consider that our Dresent Mayor has filled the office with every credit and if he cares to stand, deserves a second term. But ! f he stands down there is no man ] n sight who will bring dignity, experience, and ability to the office of Jfayor like either Sir Hugh Acland or Councillor Andrews.—Yours, etc., NO AXE. January 20, 1938.
