METAPHYSICS

TO THE EDITOR OF THE TBESS. Sir, —I am afraid I must join issue with your reviewer on Arthur Osborne's book, "'The Super-physical." I disagree entirely with the latter pari of the last paragraph of that review. May I ask what are his qualifications for making such a remark? Has he studied the subject at first hand, for five. 10. or 30 years? Or has he read one or two books? In the nineties, an

English businessman in the North of England was taking paraffin wax moulds of materialised hands and feet and making plaster casts, preceding by a quarter of a century the experiments of Dr. Geley. of Paris. These experiments gave physical proof of the facts of materialisation and dematerialisation. for without the latter process it would be impossible to remove the paraffin glove from the form enclosed within. The hand of the materialised form melts away, leaving the glove behind.

This, which is one of the many forms of phenomena capable of proof, demonstrates a fact not generally known, for such is the ignorance and prejudice of the public; they are afraid to investigate the subject. Those who have the patience to examine the facl.s. extending their studies over a period of years, eventually become convinced, and know from experience that glib remarks reveal a lack of first-hand knowledge, for only those whose knowledge is obtained from second-hand sources are capable of making such flippant statements.—Yours, etc.. E. M. LOVELL-SMITH. January 21. 1938.
