(VBLLINGTOX T.C. HANDICAPS ~- o Paul has declared the following undicaps for the opening day of the inJillnaton Trotting Club's summer meettog t° i> e held on February 3 and s:

TROTTING NOTES

Reminder Acceptances for the first day of the Nelson Trotting Club's meeting will close to-day at 8 p.m. Cftange of Stables By Jack Potts from Midnight. ±he •ppropriately-named Last Hand was recently taken over by V. Alborn, and she has started work under that trainer at Addington. She has done little racing, but on occasions she has liven indications of proving a useful novice, and it is possible that she has yet to show her best.

Doing Well Aide de Camp claims no immediate engagements, but he is being kept in good order by E. A. Berry in his preparation for the inter-Dominion championships. Since last August this Pacer has made a rapid rise in the handicaps, and although he was beaten in his two latest outings, in some Warters he is regarded as being equal to the best company.

Addition to Team . The latest addition to J. J. Kennerley's team is a fllly by Travis AxWorthy from the same dam as a userui trotter in Mataunga. A three-year-old, the filly has done little to this *tage of her education; but her appearance and manner of moving suggest, that she will learn to trot well with a little more time.

Pilot Peter Pilot Peter has not been given a rreat deal of racing this season; but in his few outings he has demonstrated that he is a young trotter of great possibilities. At the last Forbury Park meeting he impressed as being more solid than he was last season, and if he ha* made the improvement expected of him. he is again likely to figure prominently in his races at tne coming Forbury fixture. Nervous Pacer At one stage of his career Maltravers "as expected to develop into a pacer °f more than average merit, but even ?"er a considerable amount of racing Jie is still among the maiden performer. He is an extremely nervous type °* gelding who may take a long time to overcome his disadvantage. His owner has been very patient with him, a "d it is to be hoped that Maltravers Will soon show some reward, ana *ace up to early expectations.

Dunedin Cup „ Although the field for the Dunedin Cup, to be decided on Thursday, is far "■om a large one, the quality of the intrants Is of a high standard Parisienne and Plutus continue to "old their positions as the early favourites, and Pot Luck ar.d Willow Wave are also well fange<i , in certain quarters. All fanplenne's best performances have oeen given over two-mile distances, and .her racing has stamped her as > rare stayer. This season she has won fpur races in a manner that has left !""<* doubt of her ability to hold her £*» In the best company, and she is Wobably open to more improvement S?n the majority opposed to her on •OJuriday. With seven wins, a sec--2*o, and a third to his credit to this *»ge of the season, Plutus has conv wWd a remarkable record. As both ?.Bpriater and a stayer he has proved £?»»ett to be a good horse, and his gJMtttency has made him most popuS? with racegoers. The best that y?uay Range and Evicus have been »ple to achieve to this stage of the s*«>n is one minor placing each, but P e 'r Ehowings have suggested that are due to make a return to the list at an early date. Nor has g«*am Direct proved capable of 2"MO* a field home since this season aKSfa. but he has made some pleasing •*•** and his two recent seconds,

over two miles have left little to be desired.

War Buoy Usually regarded as an outstanding stayer. War Buoy's winning efforts in the last few months have been recorded over a mile and a quarter, and his showings over the longer distance have not been up to his usual standard. On the other hand. Pot Luck has never earned credit- as a two miler, but all his placings this term have been over that distance, and he has raced really well for two wins, three seconds, and a third. He appears to be setting much more solid with experience and age, and -there are few horses with better recent form. Willow Wave, the backmarker, has generally given of his best on the Forbury Park track. Where Addington has found him most unreliable. Dunedin meetings have seen him race consistently well, and if he repeats the form shown by him over the Auckland Cup fixture he will have to be respected in this class. The material will be on hand to provide an excellent race in the Dunedin Cup. in which young horses in Purisienne. Plutus. and Pot Luck have found early favour.
