Turner, who recently motored 950.'$ miles in America. lie states that petrol ranged from 18 cents to 'M) cents a gallon. This price in sterling is !)cl to Is 'M, This included a Government tax ol* 2d a gallon. The variation in price will, no doubt, be due to the difference between a low grade and high grade petrol. As New Zealand uses a much higher grade petrol than almost, any other country in the world, no doubt the retail price in America for the spirit, used in New Zealand would be somewhere about Is .'-id. It will be seen from this that by adding BAd a gallon, which is the difference in taxation, the retail price of spirit in New Zealand would appear to be reasonable.
