♦ VICTIM IN CRITICAL CONDITION LABOURER CHARGED IN MAGISTRATE'S COURT No change was reported early this morning in the critical condition of Thomas Hawtin, of 500 Worcester street, who was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital on Wednesday evening suffering severe wounds in the throat and stomach, caused through being stabbed by a sheath knife in a street affray about 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the corner of Moorhousc avenue and Madras street. William George Boyd, an. Irishman, described as a labourer of no fixed abode, aged 54, appeared in the Magistrate's Court before Mr E. C. Levvcy, S.M., yesterday morning, charged with wounding Thomas Hawtin with intent to do grievous bodily harm. Boyd, when he stepped into the dock, had extensive bruises on his forehead, nose, and mouth. On the application of Detective-Sergeant T. E. Holmes, he was remanded until next Thursday. January 27. The accused was represented by Mr R. A. Young.
