I ♦—ij MAJOR RAYMOND LAWRY i ! The death occurred at Mount Pleasant yesterday of Major Raymond Alexlandcr Reid Lawry, of Kenya Colony, I at the age of 46 years. Mr Lawry suffered a serious illness at the beginning of last year and returned to New Zealand in October for rest and treatment. He expected to leave again for Kenya Colony in March, but died I yesterday of a sudden heart attack. i Mr Lawry, the second son of the late Rev. Samuel and Mrs Lawry, was | born in Ashburton in 1891. He lived in I various parts of the Dominion, at ' Auckland, Palmerston North, and Christchurch. He was educated at the Christchurch Boys' High School, and ', on leaving school joined the stuff of Mr j J. A. Flesher, a barrister and solicitor. | until the outbreak of the Great War Mr Lawry studied law at Canterbury University College. He enlisted in the mai-i body as a second lieutenant, and at Ihe end of the war had risen to the rank of major. He completed his law studies, and took the LL.B. degree. Two years later he left New Zealand for Kenya Colony, where lie took up farming, visiting the Dominion again on holiday in 1927. During the last six years in Kenya Colony lie had been Town Clerk of Nakuru, and had placed his farm under management. He was recently appointed to this office for a further term. Mr Lawrv was a brother of Mr H. P. Lawry. S.M., of Wellington, and of Mr W. Melville Lawry. of Christchurch. There arc two sisters. Mrs L. J. Berry, of Wellington, and Mrs A. F. McArthur, of Greenstreet, Ashburton. MR S. W. LAMBTON Mr S. W. Lambton, who died at Christchurch on January 17, was born at Tudhoe, Durham, in 1871. He left England at the age of 21, after living in London for a few years, and went to Melbourne, later moving to Durban, Natal, and eventually returning to Western Australia and Melbourne. He arrived in Auckland about 25 years ago, and was a well-known North Island traveller. At one time he was president of the Auckland Hotel Workers' Union. When he came to Christchurch, Mr Lambton entered into business on his own account, and became widely known, holding several executive offices in the Douglas Credit movement, of which he was honorary secretary at the time of his death. Mr Lambton married in 1918 Miss Annie Isobel Dickinson, who survives him. A serious motoring accident In 1931 greatly impaired Mr Lambton's health. ■' ■ = '
