DOMINION CONFERENCE IN CHRISTCHURCH

FIFTY TRAINEES AND NURSES ATTEND

The Dominion conference ol the New Zealand Nurses' Christian Union began yesterday at Bishop Julius Hostel arid will continue until Monday evening. The conference is being attended by 50 nurses and trainees. The conference president is Mrs T. N. Gibbs, of Christchurch. Miss Muriel Oppenheim is the organising secretary, and Mrs W. W. Walker is the treasurer. Addresses were given last evening by Dr. Laird, of Wellington, and Miss M. J. Gow, who represented the local branch of the National Council of Women.

The annual meeting will be held tonight at Helen Connon Hall, when Dr. Francis Bennett will preside. The speaker will be Mrs Bayldon McEwan, of Wellington. On Saturday two social outings will be held. The members of the conference will be the guests of the Hon. Sir R. Heaton Rhodes and Miss V. Hynes at tea during the afternoon at "Otahuna." Tai Tapu. During the evening the nurses of the Christchurch Public Hospital, with the permission of the matron, Miss G. Widdowson, will entertain them at a reception. A r, ;rvice will be held at 3.15 p.m. on Sunday in the Hospital Chapel. Dr. Sutherland, of Jagadhri Hospital, Punjab, India, will speak, and the service will be conducted by Canon H. Williams. Dr. Leslie C. L. Averill will also take part in the service, to which local doctors and their wives and local nurses have been invited. Mrs T. N. Gibbs will entertain the members of the conference on Monday afternoon at her home, "Hillhurst," Cashmere. The conference will close on Monday night with an address by Miss J. Samson, who last year attended the international conference of nurses in London as New Zealand secretary. Each day while the conference lasts there will be discussions on union affairs and Bible studies.
