LONDON UNDERGROUND RAILWAYS
* BUILDING OF NEW COACHES ORDERED (BRITISH OFFICIAL WIRELB3S.) RUGBY, January 18. The London Passenger Transport Board has ordered 2050 new coaches for underground trains. They will cost about £6,000,000. The contracts stipulate that 500 coaches must be delivered this year. The driving equipment on the new trains for the first time will be underneath the floor boards and the entire train will be available for passengers. The trains will accelerate at the rate of 20 miles an hour in 10 seconds, and as a result it will be possible to run far more trains in rush hours. It is stated that the trains will be superior in every respect to any in the world.
