The gold badge of the Lifeboat Institution has been given to Mrs Manby, a Staffordshire woman of Codsail, who with her helpers has knitted 1525 woollen scarves for lifeboatmen. An order for 44 express locomotives for the South African railways has been placed with he North British Locomotive Company of Glasgow. The contract is valued at £506,000.
