REDUCED ADMISSION TO BE
CHARGED
Parties of school children between the ages of 10 and 14 years will be taken on specially conducted tours oi Se exhibits at the. National Flower Show to be held in Christchurch xn the King Edward Barracks on January 25 and 26. This decision was made at a meeting of the New Zealand National Ihow Week Committee The committee is composed ofrepre aentatives of the different horticul Sal bodies of the city The chairman, Mr M J. Barnett, presided. The suggestion that these toms should be arranged was made to the committee by Mr H. W. Gour lay. who waited on the meeting. Ar rangements had been completed to carry out a children’s broadcast of the show with a commentary on various exhibits on Tuesday evening, he said. He suggested that a conducted tour of the show by children should be arranged on Tuesday morning, and that the entry fee of 6d should be reduced. The age limit for these children should be and 16 years. The grdups most suitable would contain less than 15 children. As many children as Possible should see the show. However, it was difficult to say how many children would attend—“it might be 300 and it might be 50,” he said. Discussing the suggestion, Mr barnett said that the main difficulty was in having a number of people at the show to conduct the children. He thought the idea was a very good one. The committee decided to agree with Mr Gourlay’s suggestion and to thank him for his offer of a broadcast talk on Tuesday evening. It was also agreed to admit children to the show on Wednesday morning, between 10 and 11 o’clock for the price of 3d. provided that they assembled before 10 a.m. and were conducted round the exhibits. The age limit was fixed between 10 and 14 years. Arrangements were made for the staging of the exhibits, and the space required for displays by horticultural bodies and growers discussed. Applications for space have been received from many parts of the Dominion. T m quite pleased with the number and type of the exhibits coming forward, remarked Mr Barnett. “Apart from the big displays the competitive exhibits should be a record.” There will be no civic reception to delegates and visitors, the committee deciding to omit the function f r 9fPHH e programme to avoid clashing with the different conferences held during the week. Members claimed that the reception was inconvenient and would interfere with the other activities.
