POSSIBLE INDIAN HOCKEY TOUR

MANAVADER STATE MAY SEND SIDE

FEDERATION’S PERMISSION

GIVEN

A hockey team from Manavadar State, India, will probably visit New Zealand this year, arriving in the middle of May. The management committee of the New Zealand Hockey Association held a meeting last evening to discuss a letter received yesterday from the Indian Hockey Federation. The letter said that the council of the federation had reconsidered the New Zealand Association’s request for permission to make arrangements with Manavadar, and had decided to allow a team from Manavadar State to visit New Zealand.

The chairman of last night’s meeting, Mr H. S. J., Goodman, reported that the acceptance now seemed certain. It was decided to write to Manavadar asking for a team consisting of 16 players and a manager. In addition, the letter would say that it would be appreciated if the Ruling Prince of Manavadar could accompany the side. The tour would probably begin in the middle of May, with the arrival in Wellington, and the departure late in July from Auckland, giving a full 10 weeks.

A sub-committee was set up to arrange the itinerary of the tour; it consists of Messrs H. S. J. Goodman. H. Throp, C. C. Holland, P. N. Quartermain, and W. H. Down.
