REPORTED NEGOTIATIONS
FOR SALE SPECIAL SURVEY TO BE MADE The report was current in Lyttelton yesterday that the steamer Tees, which maintains the only service between the Chatham Islands and the mainland, was under offer for sale. Inquiries were made from the agents, Messrs Toy and Company, Lyttelton, but officials of this company were unable to confirm or deny the report. It is known, however, that a special survey of the vessel is to be made to-day, at which representatives of the owners, the Westland Shipping Company, Greymoufh, will be present. • Whether, in the event of a sale being effec 1, any provision is to be made for the islands service to be continued, could not be ascertained. The Tees is at present timed to sail to-night with a full complement of passengers and cargo for the Chatham Islands. •
