NEW ZEALAND FARMERS CRITICISED ALLEGED FAILURE TO FILL QUOTA (Received January 18, 10 p.m.) LONDON, January 18. Criticising New Zealand farmers, Mr C. A. Coggan, president of the National Federation of Meat Trades, speaking at a dinner, said: “Instead of sending the quota promised, they refrained from killing their sheep because they found wool was more valuable than meat. “If that is to continue we ought to obtain from foreign countries the meat necessary to enable our people to remain the best and the cheapest fed in the whole world. “I hope for the sake of our unemployed that when the State Departments see that meat shows a rise of 20 per cent, on wholesale prices since 1936, they will realise that the time has come for a substantial increase in the import quotas.” ____________
