ROWING
ACTION CRITICISED USE OF TRUST FUND BY HEADQUARTERS Mr W. G. Atack moved at last night’s meeting of the Canterbury Rowing Association that the association should register a protest at the action of the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association in mortgaging its principal of £IBOO in order to obtain an overdraft of £2OO to defray the expenses of the Empire Games rowing team. Mr F. D. Kesteven, who presided, said that the money, which was a trust fund, belonged to the various New Zealand rowing associations, and should be used solely for domestic purposes. The New Zealand Amateur Rowing Club, he said, had given no notice of its intentions to the provincial associations. The motion was carried with only one dissentient vote, that of the secretary, Mr R. J. Hobbs. Advice was received that the inter - Dominion eight-oar championships would be held at Wanganui on Easter Monday, April 18. The programme for the Kaiapoi regatta, which will be held on the Waimakariri river on February 12, ./as approved. . Entries for the inter-club eight-oar championships were received. Sumner was unable to enter a crew and the Avon Club was invited to enter a second eight so as to obviate a bye. The following is the draw:—Union v. Avon No. 1, Canterbury v. Avon No. 2.
