LYTTELTON NEWS
NEW MOTOR-SHIP IN PORT Considerable interest was taken in Lyttelton yesterday in the new Port Line motor-ship Port Jackson, which arrived after a smart trip of Hi hours from Dunedin. A description of the vessel appeared in “The Press” of last Saturday,, but it may be mentioned that visitors to the vessel yesterday were impressed with the luxurious staterooms provided for passengers and the excel-* lent appointments of the public rooms. The several decks provide ample recreation ’ space for passengers, and nothing has been left undone which will ensure their comfort. Captain S. W. Hayter is in command of the Port Jackson. The Mosquito Nuisance In an effort to abate the mosquito nuisance in the western portion of Lyttelton, the borough inspector (Mr G. M. Daniel) yesterday sprayed the water lying in the concrete pits on: the former site of the standby plant. About 10 gallons of oil was used in. the operation. I It is reported that other parts of the harbour are also infested with mosquitoes, particularly the Maori village at Rapaki. One Maori, with his face badly swollen with bites, had to secure medical attention. !
