ATLANTIC STORM
GREEK SHIP SUNK
DAMAGE TO AMERICAN COASTAL AREAS
(Received November 14, 8.30 p.m.)
NEW YORK, November 13,
A heavy Atlantic storm badly battered the North American coast, damaging shipping, disrupting communications, and flooding wide areas. The most serious loss wtis the sinking of the Greek freighter Tzennychandris, recently transferred from American registry- Six of her crew were rescued, but 23 others are afloat in open boats or with life belts off Cape Hatteras. Coastguard cutters are searching for them, but with little hope of success.
Several fishermen's boats from the North Atlantic made harbour with difficulty, but there was no loss of life. A yacht was abandoned off the New Jersey coast and wrecked. Her passengers were rescued. Suburban areas in the main cities, including New York and almost all seaside resorts, have reported the wrecking of cottages. Gale warnings are still hung out along the coast. The storm has not yet blown out.
