ARBITRATION COURT DELAY
FREEZING WORKERS PASS RESOLUTION
The protest against the delay of award proceedings in the Arbitration Court made last week by the Canterbury District Council of the Federation of Labour has been fully endorsed by the executive of the Canterbury Freezing Workers and Related Trades The executive has passed a resolution of support for the federation, expressing at the same time an opinion that the Court should clarify the position and speed up the settlement of disputes by making wage payments m . all awards retrospective from .a definite date.
CITING OF PARTIES Suggesting that the proposed amendment to the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act should be made retrospective in its reference to the citing of parties. Mr E. C. Sutcliffe, secretary of the Carpenters’ Union, has written to the Minister for Labour, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong. Mr Sutcliffe considers that a great deal or time could be saved if the Court did not have to hear applications to Join parties. ■
