PLUNKET SOCIETY CONFERENCE

WORK ACCOMPLISHED FOR MOTHERHOOD

(press association telegram.) WELLINGTON, November 4. The Plunket Society’s conference was opened by Lady Galway this morning, Mrs James Begg, Dominion president of the society, introducing her. Lady Galway spoke of the wonderful work accomplished by the society for motherhood and the nation, and of the debt of the whole of the English-speaking race to Sir Truby King. She emphasised the value of conferences, as every movement had to be kept up to date. The conference expressed its sense of obligation to Sir Truby King, and regrets at his inability to attend. Lady Galway presented Mrs Joseph McGeorge, a former Dominion president, with a handsome illustrated history of the society’s work, as a tribute to her long and valuable services, and several speakers spoke highly of Mrs McGeorge’s association with the movement. The president, in her address of welcome to the delegates, referred to the many losses sustained by the society during the year and mentioned particularly the deaths of Mrs W. B. Benley, Lady Lockhart, Lady Luke, Miss I Patrick , and Mrs A. F. Wright The conference placed on record its appreciation of the work of Lady Sidey, who recently relinquished the position of acting-Dominion president.
