RETURNING TO IRELAND
MEMBER OF FAMOUS FAMILY (Received November 5, 8.30 p.m.) PRAGUE, November 5. Count Taafe, a descendant of ft noble Welsh family, which settled in Ireland in the tenth century, but which has lived in Bohemia for the last 300 years, is returning to Ireland permanently. His Irish titles of Viscount Taafe and Baron of Bahymote were abolished by Act of Parliament in 1917. because he fought against Great Britain in the Austrian army during the war He is the only person in the world holding the secret of the murder of Crown Prince Rudolf of the Hapsburgs in 1899. The secret was confided to him by his father before his death.
[The Irish titles of Viscount Taafe and Baron Ballymote were conferred on Sir John Taafe in 1623. 'Die family moved to Bohemia when its estates were sequestered during the Civil War, for the second Viscount (also Earl of Carlingford) had been a zealous supporter of the Royal cause. The sixth Viscount received the title of Count of the Holy Roman Empire for his defeat of the Turks at the siege of Belgrade. The eleventh Vi-count. who died in 1895, was Prime Minister of (Austria from 1879 to 1893.]
