The Minister for Labour (the Hon. H. T. Armstrong) will leave Wellington on Thursday evening on a visit to Christchurch and will be accompanied by Mrs Armstrong. The Minister will receive deputations all day on Friday.— From Our Parliamentary Reporter. Mr T. H. Langford, authority for the No. 3 Transport Licensing District, left for the north last evening to attend a conference of licensing authorities in Wellington. Mr A H. Allen, a member of the Dunedin City Council for the last six and a half years, will be a candidate for the mayoralty at the municipal elections next May.—Press Association. Mr E. X. Le Lievre, of Akaroa, who has been suffering from the effects of a recent accident, was reported yesterday to have improved considerably. Mr R. Hope-Pearson has been awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, according to advice which he received yesterday from America. Part of the thesis for the degree dealt with a national health scheme and was submitted to the New Zealand National Health Commission. The Town Clerk, Mr J. S. Neville, returned from the north by the steamer express yesterday morning. Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., was an arrival by the steamer express from the north yesterday morning. Sir Louis Barnett was an arrival from the north by the steamer express yesterday morning. The appointment of the Rev. R. George Coats, vicar of St. Luke's parish, Mount Albert, as canon of St. Mary's Cathedral is announced. The appointment was made to fill the vacancy caused by the elevation of Canon Fancourt to dean of the Cathedral.—Press Association. The Hon. Sir James Allen, M.L.C., was a passenger for Wellington by the steamer express last evening. Mr I. F. Thomson, Town Clerk at Milton, has been appointed Town Clerk at Northcote. —Press Association.
