SEAMEN'S INSTITUTE
At the monthly meeting of the board of the British Sailors' Society, held at the Seamen's Institute on Menday evening, the superintendent (Mr F. Mintey) reported that during the last five weeks, 639 officers and me:i had visited the institution. Four services and one social had been held. Visits to ships totalled 19, and five visits were made to seamen in hospital. Burning-off Extensive burning-off operations were being conducted on Mount Herbert yesterday. At one period during the morning, when the grass round the summit was fired, the mountain bore the appearance of ar. active volcano.
