RETURNED SOLDIERS' ASSOCIATION
LARGE MEMBERSHIP IN CHRISTCHURCH Membership of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers' Association is now 387 more than it was at this time last year, according to a report presented at the meeting of the executive of the association last evening. The total is 2230. compared with 1843 on September 15 last year. Mr W. E. Leadley presided. A report from the Dominion headquarters of the association showed that at the end of July Christchurch headed the financial membership ladder, with 2006 financial memoers. No figures were available from Auckland. The general assistance committee reported that a total of 175 applications had been granted compared with 181 for the same period last year. Ten applications had been declined. Of the applications, 75 were for groceries. 44 for coal, and 50 for meat.
