OFFICIAL FORECASTS [THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON. September 12. The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Moderate to strong l westerly to south-westerly winds, reaching 1 gale force at times in exposed positions, but moderating gradually during Monday. Weather cold and changeable, with occasional passing showers, some snow on the ranges and hail in places. Seas rather rough to rough. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island Is: — Moderate to strong winds between west and south, reaching gale force at times. Weather cold and squally, with passing showers, snow on ranges, and hail in places. Seas rough, with a heavy south- i westerly swell. i DOMINION ' The forecast for the Dominion is as follows: Weather cold, boisterous, and changeable, with passing showers, hail in places, and snow on the ranges, but more especially in western and southern districts. Yesterday’s depression passed during the night, but was followed by a secondary depression. Pressure is therefore still low in the south. It is now, however, rising over all the Dominion. The oncoming anticyclone is centred rather far north so that the southerly spell will not be so cold as anticipated. Winds—Between west and south, moderate to strong generally, and of gale force in many places. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Rough on the West Coast and off shore south of East Cape; moderate to rather rough north of East Cape. Eastern Tasman Sea—Strong south-westerly winds to gales, and.rough to high seas. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER Warm, dull weather prevailed in Christchurch during the week-end. There was no sunshine on Saturday, and only intermittent sunshine yesterday. There was a steady north-west wind during both days. At I o’clock this morning the sky was clouded and a moderate northwesterly breeze was blowing. - The temperature was 50 degrees and the barometer, rising rapidly, registered 29.71 inches. •To September 12. —i ... IN OTHER PLACES Auckland—Saturday was cool and cloudy, with a strong northerly wind. Rain fell in the afternoon and at night. Yesterday was showery, with a strong north-westerly wind, and warm sunshine between the showers. The barometer dropped steadily on Saturday, recovering after midnight, the reading at 5 p.m. yesterday being 29.95 inches. Wellington—Saturday was overcast and very mild, with a strong, squally north-westerly breeze. Showers fell during the night. Yesterday was fine and cooler. Sharp showers and some hail fell, but there was little change in the wind. The minimum temperalure on Saturday was 48.3 degrees and the maximum 54.3 degrees. The minimum yesterday was 47.3 degrees and the maximum 54.3 degrees. Dunedin—Saturday was fine, although dull, the temperature rising to 65 degrees. A breeze blew from the north-east in the late afternoon. The barometer fell sharply to 29.39 inches. Yesterday was dull, although warm, the maximum temperature being CO degree:;.
